We were at the WKU / ICO British International Open at the Telford International Centre on Saturday with a team of 14 fighters and World Championship hopefuls.
Today was part of a two day event and a co-promotion between two of the sports governing bodies with the World Kickboxing Union and the International Combat Organisation and as well as being a British Championships it doubled up as a World Championship qualifying event for anyone who won a podium spot on the day.
The USKA Fight Team on the day consisted of Rayyan Ellahi, Amad Azim, Ollie Cooke, Elijah Brown, Krystal Durham, Zain Amer, Julia Glowacz, Kaifah Imran, Maryam Sarfraz, Mateusz Klaczek, Nikita Raubiska, Isa Khan, Hamza Mohammed and Ateeq Al Rehman and had a full coaching team in effect with Qasim Beg, Neil Kelly, Mushy Younis and Shakeel Hussain.
The team had a busy day competing in multi fighting disciplines and categories in a competition that had over 2000 starts meaning that categories were stacked and everyone had to work really hard for their successes and for their medals.
Against good opposition and having to deal with the usual up and down variables that competitions bring we finished the day with a very respectful 32 Medals including 20 Golds, 9 Silvers and 3 Bronzes and most importantly some very good performances.
With all our fighters now eligible to make the squad for the ICO World Championships in Frankfurt, Germany in October we now set our sights on leveling up once again to give our fighters every chance of upgrading those British medals to World medals in 5 months time.
