Following on from our fantastic success at last weekend's AFSO Cheshire Cup, we made a last minute decision to enter a team into the WMAC British Championships at the Perdiswell Leisure Centre in Worcester.
With only a few days to prepare, a team of eight USKA Fight Team competitors, accompanied by USKA Coaches Neil Kelly and Mushy Younis, travelled to Worcester to compete across the Mat Continuous and Low Kick divisions.
Representing Team USKA on the day were Adam Mohammed, Daniel Kiss, Kevin Cojocaru, Amad Azim, Julia Glowacz, Isa Khan, Maryam Sarfraz and Sami Kelly.
Although the event was very much an impulsive addition to our competition calendar, we saw it as another excellent opportunity for our fighters to gain valuable experience, continue building momentum and put the skills they have been developing in the gym to the test against quality opposition.
The championships proved to be a very long and exceptionally hot day, presenting plenty of challenges for both fighters and coaches alike. Competing in such conditions demands not only technical ability but also resilience, concentration and the determination to keep performing despite the physical demands of the heat and the lengthy schedule. Our team rose to that challenge superbly.
As always, every bout provided valuable lessons, whether in victory or defeat, and our fighters once again displayed the determination, discipline and sportsmanship that we pride ourselves on as a club.
After another outstanding day of competition, Team USKA returned home with an impressive medal haul of:
🥇 10 Gold
🥈 4 Silver
Two of the silver medals came courtesy of all USKA finals, meaning those divisions were guaranteed to stay within the team regardless of the outcome. While it is never ideal to see teammates drawn against one another, it is also a reflection of the strength and depth of the USKA Fight Team that we were able to contest our own finals.
A huge congratulations to every member of the team for their performances, professionalism and attitude throughout the day, and thank you to the organisers, officials, coaches, supporters and fellow competitors who helped make the event another enjoyable and successful championship.
The hard work continues as we now turn our attention to the next challenge on the calendar.
