27-09-26 - USKA Shine Again at the 2026 AFSO British Championships!
In the final competitive outing for the team before the ICO World Championships in France next month, the USKA Fight Team were back on the road today, travelling to a very busy 2026 AFSO British Championships at the Cheshire County Sports Club in Chester.
Accompanied by USKA Chief Instructor Neil Kelly and USKA Fight Coach Mushy Younis, our nine fighter team consisted of Adam Mohammed, Daniel Kiss, Kevin Cojocaru, Rayaan Ellahi, Amad Azim, Haidar Khan, Julia Glowacz, Isa Khan and Maryam Sarfraz.
Our fighters competed across multiple disciplines on both the mats and in the ring and, once again, performed out of their skin against some fantastic opposition throughout the day.
Following a series of outstanding performances, Team USKA finished the day with an almost unbeaten record and an impressive medal haul of:
🏅 18 Gold
🥈 3 Silver
🥉 2 Bronze
It is also worth noting that two of our three Silver medals came as a result of all USKA finals, while our medal tally could have been even higher had several additional categories gone ahead, with a number unfortunately unable to be contested due to no opposition being available in the relevant age and weight divisions.
Nevertheless, 23 medals from just nine competitors underlines once again the incredible strength and depth within this team and shows that whenever USKA steps onto the mats or climbs through the ropes, we are a force to be reckoned with!
Despite taking just nine competitors, USKA also finished second in the overall club medal table, narrowly missing out on the top spot to a club represented by more than 35 competitors.
To add to an already fantastic day, we were also extremely proud to receive a special award from the tournament organisers, recognising USKA as the club they considered to have the best fighters in attendance.
A fantastic achievement and a huge compliment to our fighters and coaching team.
The championships provided the perfect final competitive run out before we fly to France both as a confidence booster and, more importantly, as an opportunity to put into practice everything we have been working so hard on throughout the last 10 months of our World Championship build up.
Congratulations to all nine of our fighters for their performances, professionalism and teamwork throughout the day.
A huge thank you also goes to our travelling supporters and, of course, to our dedicated coaching team for the countless hours of hard work and commitment that continue to go on behind the scenes.
We would also like to thank the AFSO Team for delivering another fantastic competition and providing the stage for our fighters to showcase their skills.
Now it's straight back to the gym.
The competitions are done. The preparation is almost complete.
We have just a couple of weeks remaining to sharpen everything up before Team USKA heads to France for the ICO World Championships, where we will attempt to upgrade some of those British Championship Gold medals into World Championship Gold medals!
One final push!
Well done, Team USKA!
