28-06-26 - A clean sweep for USKA at the AFSO Cheshire Cup!
Sunday 28th June saw a team of six USKA Fight Team competitors travel to the Cheshire County Sports Club in Chester to compete at the AFSO Cheshire Cup.
Accompanied by USKA coaches Mushy Younis, Sami Kelly and Julia Glowacz, the team of Adam Mohammed, Daniel Kiss, Kevin Cojocaru, Rayaan Ellahi, Isa Khan and Maryam Sarfraz competed across multiple disciplines on both the mats and in the ring.
Unfortunately, a number of categories were combined on the day, resulting in several of our fighters giving away considerable weight. Even more frustratingly, it also meant a number of USKA fighters were drawn against each other, which is never ideal. Nevertheless, we made the best of the situation and embraced the opportunity to gain valuable mat and ring time. Every bout provides lessons, and there is simply no substitute for real competition experience.
Following a series of outstanding performances, Team USKA finished the day with an impressive medal haul of:
🏅 18 Gold
🥈 5 Silver
🥉 1 Bronze
It is also worth noting that all of those Silver and Bronze medals came as a result of USKA fighters competing against each other meaning that every defeat suffered by Team USKA today came at the hands of another teammate, underlining once again that we are a force to be reckoned with whenever we step onto the mats or climb through the ropes.
Despite taking just six competitors, USKA also finished top of the overall club medal table, with 5 of our fighters earning places in the tournament's Top 10 Competitors rankings.
A fantastic effort from everyone involved. Congratulations to all of our fighters for their performances, professionalism and teamwork throughout the day. A huge thank you also goes to our travelling supporters and, of course, to our dedicated coaching team for their hard work and commitment.
