28-10-23 - Win or Learn, we are super proud of our Thunder On The Humber Fight Night Fighters

So not the results we were looking for in Scunthorpe tonight but as for performances, we couldn't ask for any more from our two young fighters on the Thunder on the Humber WKA fight night.

Stepping in at only 6 days notice and giving away age, height and experience USKA's Elijah 'Bad Boy' Brown took on River Nelmes from the Vanquish Martial Arts Gym in Pontefract, West Yorkshire for the WKA -45kg Area Title.
Elijah in his first ever Gala Fight jumped at the opportunity and performed out of his skin to lose a narrow points decision in a close fight with score cards of 48/47 Brown, 48/47 (Nelmes) and a ridiculous 50/45 (Nelmes) on the final card not giving Elijah a look in on any of the rounds.
Final score card aside, it was a great fight, a close fight and an awesome performance from Elijah which he will gain lots of confidence and experience from.
That's a fight we would love to do again with a little bit of preparation time.

Main event of the evening saw USKA's Maryam 'The Storm' Sarfraz also in her Gala debut giving away experience to challenge the talented Isla 'Bomber' Rose from the Twin Tigers Martal Arts Gym in Scunthorpe for the WKA -45kg British Title.
We knew we would be up against it in this one fighting away from home against such a formidable opponent but decided to seize the opportunity with both hands.
A nervous start from Maryam feeling the pressure of fighting as main event on her first ever night show cost her two standing counts in the first round under heavy fire to body and head from Isla.
After a strong pep talk from USKA Coach Qasim Beg in the corner Maryam found her feet and pressed the action having some very good moments over the remaining four rounds but alas, with the slow start it was in insurmountable gap to close and we conceded a Unanimous Points decision with scores of 49/44 (Rose) on all three score cards.

We've always said that it's about the performances first and results second and with that in mind we are more than happy with both Elijah's and Maryam's work tonight.
It's back to the gym now to build on that experience looking for the next show we can get them both out on to make the necessary adjustments to get their hands raised in victory next time.

A big thank you to the show promoters for having the kids on, our corner team of Qasim Beg, Mushy Younis and Shakeel Hussain for looking after them and to each and every one of our spectators that made the long trip up to Scunthorpe the support. We truly appreciate you guys.
